Ibrahima Konaté is a French professional footballer whose religious practice is Muslim. Konate once publicly wished Liverpool’s Muslim supporters a blessed Ramadan. During the 2023 Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, Konaté was among the Muslim players in the France squad, alongside Ousmane Dembélé, selected by Didier Deschamps while Ramadan was ongoing. Salary
Ibrahima Konaté signed a five-year contract with Liverpool in May 2021, which is set to expire this summer. The deal is reportedly worth around £18.2 million ($24 million) in total, making him one of the club’s highest-paid players. His base salary is estimated at approximately £80,000 per week ($106,000), or just over £3.64 million per year ($4.8 million). Prior to this deal, Konaté earned significantly less during his time at his former club Leipzig. His total career earnings from club salaries are estimated to be around £14.5 million as of this writing. The Times reported that his camp was seeking a two-and-a-half-times increase to reach approximately £200,000 per week on a new deal.
Early life
Ibrahima Konaté was born on 25 May 1999 in Paris to Malian parents. He is the second youngest of eight children. As of late January of 2026, Konaté’s father, Hamady Konaté, reportedly passed away. Konaté played youth football with Paris FC as well as with the youth team of Sochaux.
CRAZY FACT: Ibrahima Konaté started his football career as a striker before moving to the defence, becoming a center-back.
RB Leipzig
In June 2017, RB Leipzig signed Konaté for a reported €5 million on a five-year contract after his successful debut season with Ligue 2 club Sochaux. During the 2018–19 season, he formed a highly rated central defensive partnership with Dayot Upamecano, scored his first Bundesliga goal in a 4–0 win over Fortuna Düsseldorf, and helped Leipzig reach the Europa League semi-finals.

Liverpool
Konaté joined Liverpool on a five-year contract in 2021. In the 2021–22 Champions League, he scored his first Liverpool goal in a 3–1 win at Benfica in the quarter-final first leg and then scored in the semi-final second leg and the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City, helping Liverpool reach both finals. On 17 September 2024, he scored in a 3–1 win over AC Milan in the Champions League, and on 28 September he netted his first Premier League goal in a 2–1 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers. He won the Premier League title with Liverpool in the 2024–25 season under Arne Slot.
International career
Konaté received his first senior France call-up in June 2022 for the UEFA Nations League, replacing the injured Raphaël Varane, and made his full debut on 10 June in a 1–1 draw against Austria. A few months later, Konaté was included for the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad, where he helped France reach the final. On 18 November 2024, Konaté captained France for the first time in a 3–1 UEFA Nations League victory against Italy.
Personal life
On 22 January 2026, Konaté confirmed the passing of his father Hamady via social media, missing Liverpool’s Champions League match against Marseille to return to France for the funeral.
In August 2025, following Liverpool’s Premier League title victory, Konaté signed an endorsement deal with Under Armour, becoming a global brand ambassador for their performance apparel and footwear.
