What religion is Achraf Hakimi?
Achraf Hakimi is a Spanish and Moroccan professional footballer who is a Muslim. Hakimi once explained in an interview that his parents taught him Muslim culture and prayer from a young age. He has also performed Umrah in Mecca multiple times, further showing his connection to Islam. Nevertheless, Achraf Hakimi is a right-back for the Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain and the captain of the Morocco national team. He is widely regarded as one of the best right-backs in the world. Hakimi spent his early youth career with the local Getafe club Colonia Ofigevi before joining Real Madrid’s academy in 2006 at the age of eight. He began his senior career with Real Madrid Castilla in 2016 and was promoted to the first team in 2017, going on to win two UEFA Champions League titles and a La Liga title with the club. In 2018, he entered into a two-year loan deal with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, winning the 2019 DFL-Supercup. Early life
Achraf Hakimi was born Achraf Hakimi Mouh on November 4, 1998, in Madrid, Spain. He is the son of Moroccan immigrants Hassan Hakimi, who hails from Oued Zem and worked as a street vendor, and Saida Mouh, who is from Ksar El Kebir and worked as a house cleaner. He grew up alongside his older brother Nabil. At age seven, Hakimi joined local Getafe club Colonia Ofigevi before catching the attention of Real Madrid scouts and joining their academy in 2006.
Career
Hakimi made his debut for Real Madrid in the first match of the 2016 International Champions Cup, and then he went back to the B team and scored his first senior goal in September 2016. On 19 August 2017, Hakimi was promoted to the main squad as a backup to Dani Carvajal and Nacho, and on October 1st, he made his first team and La Liga debut. Achraf scored his first goal in La Liga on December 1st, and in May 2018, Real Madrid won the 2017–18 UEFA Champions League title. He thus became the first Moroccan to win the European Cup/UEFA Champions League. In July 2018, Hakimi entered into a two-year loan deal with the Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, and in February 2020, he set a speed record for the Bundesliga, 22.67 mph, during a match against Union Berlin.
In July 2020, Achraf signed a five-year contract with the Serie A club Inter Milan that was worth a reported €40 million. In 2021, he joined Paris Saint-Germain for a reported fee of €68 million. With PSG, Hakimi has won four Ligue 1 titles and contributed to the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League title in 2025, scoring the opening goal in the final against his former club Inter Milan in a match that ended 5–0. On 3 April 2026, Hakimi made his 200th appearance for PSG in all competitions, having already become the defender with the most assists in the club’s history with 40 goal involvements across fewer than five seasons.

Hakimi began representing Morocco on the Moroccan national under-17 and under-20 levels before he was named in Morocco’s preliminary squad. Hakimi has played for Morocco at the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and 2022 and at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019, 2021, and 2023. He was selected as an overage player and captain for Morocco’s 2024 Summer Olympics squad. In March 2026, Morocco was awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title after Senegal forfeited the final, handing Hakimi his first continental honor as captain. Hakimi has made many achievements while playing for the Moroccan national team. In the 2025 Ballon d’Or, Hakimi was ranked 6th, the highest position ever achieved by a Moroccan player, and was also named the 2025 African Player of the Year. Contracts, Salary & Career Earnings
During his two-year loan spell at Borussia Dortmund from 2018 to 2020, Hakimi earned €1.5 million per year. When he signed with Inter Milan in July 2020 for a reported €40 million, his annual salary rose to €6.5 million. A year later, his €60 million move to Paris Saint-Germain brought another significant pay raise, with Hakimi earning €9 million per year across his first three seasons at the club, rising to €10 million annually in 2024–25. When PSG extended his contract in February 2025, his salary was increased to €14 million per season. Under the new deal, he earns a weekly wage of £218,202 ($288,296). The contract extension is worth a reported £55.70 million in total and also includes a £4.59 million annual bonus. Across his professional career to date, Hakimi has earned an estimated €50 million in base salary alone.
Personal life
Hakimi was married to Spanish-Tunisian actress Hiba Abouk in 2020, and they welcomed two sons before divorcing in 2023. Also, Hakimi was named the 2025 African Player of the Year. He speaks four languages, Spanish, Moroccan Arabic, French, and English, and holds both Spanish and Moroccan nationalities.
