What religion is Brahim Díaz?

Brahim Díaz is a Moroccan professional footballer who is reported to have embraced Islam. An imam at Madrid’s Islamic Cultural Centre (M-30 Mosque), Adil Hachmi, reportedly confirmed that Brahim has prayed at the mosque and participated in community moments, such as breaking fast during Ramadan. Brahim Díaz is an attacking midfielder or winger for the La Liga football club Real Madrid as well as Morocco’s national team. With Madrid, he has won 2 La Liga titles, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. Additionally, Brahim represented Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Early life

Brahim Abdelkader Díaz was born on August 3, 1999, in Málaga, Spain, to a Spanish mother, Patricia Díaz, a native of Málaga, and a Moroccan-Riffian father, Sufiel Abdelkader Mohand, a native of a Spanish enclave on the North African coast bordering Morocco. Brahim is the oldest of five children, with four younger sisters. The family holds dual Spanish and Moroccan nationalities. His father, Sufiel, later transitioned into football management, co-founding Never Say Never (NSN), a sports and entertainment company, and works as a player’s agent. Díaz began his footballing journey at Málaga CF’s youth academy, and his skills caught the attention of Manchester City, who signed him at just 13 years old in 2013. After completing his football education in City’s academy, Díaz made his first-team debut for City in 2016.

Manchester City

Brahim joined Manchester City’s youth academy in 2013 from Málaga CF at age 13. He made his senior debut for the club in 2016 and scored his first career goals in a 2–0 win over Fulham on November 1, 2017. He won the Premier League title and two EFL Cups during his time at the club before departing with his contract due to expire. In January 2019, he joined Real Madrid for a fee of £15.5 million on a six-year deal, with the transfer also including a 15 percent sell-on clause for City.

Real Madrid and AC Milan

Brahim made his Real Madrid debut in January 2019 and scored on his La Liga debut against Real Valladolid. With limited playing time at the Bernabéu, he was loaned to AC Milan in September 2020, where he scored his first goal in a 2–0 win over Crotone. He spent three seasons at Milan, winning the 2021–22 Serie A title, before returning to Real Madrid permanently in 2023. In the 2023–24 season, he scored eight goals and six assists in 31 La Liga appearances, the best individual season of his career, contributing to Real Madrid winning La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. He has since won the FIFA Intercontinental Cup and UEFA Super Cup with the club. In the 2025–26 season, he has made 41 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing five assists.

International career

Brahim represented Spain at the under-17, under-19, and under-21 levels before earning his one senior cap on June 7, 2021, when he scored in a friendly against Lithuania. Having grown tired of waiting for a consistent senior call-up from Spain manager Luis de la Fuente, he switched his international allegiance to Morocco in 2024, qualifying through his father’s heritage. After switching his allegiance, he immediately made his mark in AFCON 2025 qualifying, scoring six goals in four matches, including a hat-trick in a 7–0 win over Lesotho, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer at the qualifying stage. At AFCON 2025 itself, hosted in Morocco, Brahim was the standout player of the entire tournament. He scored in every single match Morocco played, against Comoros, Mali, Zambia, Tanzania, and Cameroon, becoming the first player in the 67-year history of the competition to score in five consecutive appearances at a single AFCON final. He ended the tournament as the Golden Boot winner with five goals, the only player to reach that tally despite Morocco ultimately losing the final. He was also the second player in AFCON history to score against five different nations in a single edition, following Egypt’s Gedo in 2010. Since switching allegiance, Brahim has scored 13 goals in just 24 appearances for Morocco, a record that has made him one of the most impactful players in the history of the national team in such a short space of time. He remains a central figure in Morocco’s plans for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Salary

Brahim Díaz joined Real Madrid from Manchester City in January 2019 for a reported fee of £15.5 million on a six-year contract running through 2025. When he returned permanently from his loan at AC Milan in 2023, Real Madrid activated a contract extension, keeping him at the club through June 2027. His current gross salary stands at approximately €7.29 million per year, or €140,192 per week.

Personal life

Brahim holds dual Spanish and Moroccan nationality and speaks Spanish as his primary language alongside some Arabic. Additionally, Brahim is in a relationship with Spanish actress and model Luz Méndez.
