Early life

Pedro González López was born on November 25, 2002, in Bajamar, Tenerife, Canary Islands. He is the son of Fernando González, a restaurant owner, and María Rosario López, who worked in the family business. He began his footballing journey at local club UD Tegueste, starting out as a center-back, and his skill caught the attention of scouts. He then moved to the neighboring town of San Cristóbal de La Laguna to join CF Juventud Laguna’s youth academy, where he played until 2018.

Las Palmas

In 2019, Pedri made his professional debut for Las Palmas. During the 2019–20 Segunda División season, he made 36 league appearances after he was promoted directly to the first team by manager Pepe Mel, who signed him to a four-year contract. After making his debut at age 16 in a home loss against Huesca, Pedri spent the season establishing himself as a key player; he was ultimately able to become the youngest goalscorer in Las Palmas history. He remained with the club until mid-2020, having made 36 total league appearances and scoring a total of four goals.

Barcelona

Barcelona and Las Palmas agreed to Pedri’s transfer on September 2, 2019, though he did not join the club until August 2020. In his debut season, he made 52 appearances and won his first trophy as Barcelona beat Athletic Club 4–0 in the Copa del Rey final. In October 2021, he signed a new contract containing a €1 billion release clause. Despite significant injury disruptions in 2022–23 and 2023–24, he enjoyed a magnificent 2024–25 season under Hansi Flick, scoring the opening goal in the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid in a 3–2 win, contributing to Barcelona’s domestic treble. In January 2025, he extended his contract with Barcelona until 2030. In October 2025, he suffered a tear to the distal biceps femoris muscle in his left thigh after receiving the first red card of his senior career, sidelining him for several months. He returned from injury on 29 November 2025, featuring as a second-half substitute for Raphinha in Barcelona’s 3–1 victory over Alavés. He has since returned and recorded two goals and nine assists in 29 La Liga appearances in the current 2025–26 season.

International career

On the international stage, Pedri became the youngest player ever to represent Spain at the European Championships at Euro 2020, breaking a record set by Miguel Tendillo in 1980; he was named Player of the Tournament and was the only Spanish player in the tournament to be named in the Team of the Tournament. He represented Spain at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and at Euro 2024, where he played a key role in Spain’s victorious campaign before suffering an injury in the quarter-final win over Germany. He also won the UEFA Nations League with Spain, earning the 2025 FIFA FIFPro World XI in recognition of his consistency at the highest level. He is officially set to represent Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking the second senior World Cup of his career.

Personal life

Pedri is in a relationship with Alejandra Dorta. The couple mostly prefers to keep private and stay out of the spotlight.

His father was a former local goalkeeper in Spain. Every time Pedri wins a major trophy, he maintains a heartwarming tradition of staying on the pitch after the celebrations to take a celebratory penalty kick against his dad. Additionally, Pedri still wears the exact same shinpads passed down from his brother when they were children.
