What religion is Jérémy Doku?

Jérémy Doku is a Belgian professional soccer player who is a devout Christian. In September 2025, Doku publicly confirmed his Christian faith after being baptized following Manchester City’s derby victory over Manchester United. Doku frequently gives glory to God after scoring goals by pointing to the sky during celebrations. Jérémy Doku is probably most famous for being a winger for Manchester City. He has also played for the Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais and the Belgium national team.

Doku’s personal achievements include completing 12 successful dribbles against Bordeaux while at Rennes and representing the Red Devils at every major international tournament, including UEFA Euro 2020, the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and UEFA Euro 2024.

Early life

Jérémy Baffour Doku was born on 27 May 2002 in Antwerp, Belgium. He is of Ghanaian descent, with both parents originating from the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He is the second of four children, with an older brother, Jefferson, who now serves as his agent, and two younger sisters. In 2012, at only 10 years old, Doku joined Anderlecht’s famous academy. He attended school in Antwerp before later studying at a boarding school in Brussels while training with Anderlecht between classes.

Contracts, Salaries & Career Earnings

During his time at Anderlecht, Doku earned £2,100 per week, a modest starting wage that reflected his age and status as a teenage prospect. When he joined Rennes in 2020, his salary rose to approximately £13,000–£14,000 per week across his three seasons in Ligue 1. In August 2023, Doku signed a five-year contract with Manchester City until June 2028 for a transfer fee of £55.4 million, with his base salary set at £2.6 million per year, approximately £50,000 per week. The deal also includes up to £1.3 million per year in performance-related bonuses, bringing his potential annual earnings to around £3.9 million. City’s top earners, Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva, earn significantly more, while newer arrivals such as Rayan Cherki, who signed for £180,000 per week, and Antoine Semenyo, at £150,000 per week, have moved ahead of Doku on the wage structure.

Club career

Anderlecht

Doku made his senior debut for Anderlecht on 25 November 2018 at just 16 years old in a Jupiler Pro League match against Sint-Truiden, becoming one of the club’s youngest players ever. Over two seasons, he made 34 appearances and scored five goals, showcasing the pace and dribbling ability that would define his career.

Rennes

In October 2020, Rennes signed Doku for £22.3 million, the club’s most expensive signing at the time. He scored his first goal for the club against Metz in March 2021 before injuries disrupted his second season, limiting him to just 14 appearances. He returned to full form in 2022–23, scoring six goals in 29 Ligue 1 appearances and completing 96 take-ons, helping Rennes finish fourth in the table.

In his debut season, he made 43 appearances, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists, contributing to Manchester City winning a fourth consecutive Premier League title. He also became the first player in Premier League history to record four assists in a single match, achieving the feat against Bournemouth. He has since won the EFL Cup, Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup, Premier League, and FIFA Club World Cup with the club and has recorded five goals and five assists in 27 Premier League appearances in the current 2025–26 season.

International career

Doku represented Belgium at every youth level from the under-15s before earning his first senior call-up in 2020. He made his debut at UEFA Euro 2020, appearing as a substitute in the round of 16 loss to Italy. He was part of Belgium’s squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where they were eliminated in the group stage, and at UEFA Euro 2024, where he started multiple group matches before Belgium was knocked out by France in the round of 16. In September 2025, he scored a brace in a 6–0 win over Kazakhstan in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying. In July 2025, Doku acquired Ghanaian citizenship through his heritage, becoming a dual national while reaffirming his connection to his parents’ homeland during a visit to Ghana.

Personal life

Jérémy Doku married his wife, Shireen Erin Lyanda Raymond, in October 2025.
