Anthony Gordon is an English professional footballer who is believed to be a Christian. He was raised in a Christian home in Liverpool, England. Anthony Gordon currently plays for Newcastle United, but he is set to join Barcelona after agreeing to a five-year contract. Among his numerous career achievements with the club are helping the team win the 2025 EFL Cup and becoming the first player in club history to score four goals in a single European match during their 2025/26 Champions League campaign. Gordon has also played for the England national football team at all levels of competition.

Barcelona Contract

In May 2025, Gordon signed a five-year, €70 million contract with Barcelona. The contract pays an average annual salary of €11 million, approximately £180,000 per week. According to sport journalist Fabrizio Romano, Gordon has already landed in Spain and will be undergoing his medical examinations at the Hospital de Barcelona.

Early life

Anthony Michael Gordon was born on 24 February 2001 in Liverpool, Merseyside, to Nadine Gordon and Keith Gordon. A fan of Liverpool from an early age, he joined the club when he was nine years old. He spent two years with the club between 2010 and 2012 before he was released at age 11. He is of Irish and Scottish descent.

Club career

Gordon joined Everton’s youth academy in 2012 after coming through Liverpool’s youth setup as a child. He made his first Premier League appearance for Everton on January 18, 2020, playing 45 minutes as a substitute against West Ham United at just 18 years old. He spent a loan spell at Preston North End in 2021 before returning to establish himself as one of Everton’s most exciting players. Across 65 Premier League appearances for Everton, he scored seven goals and provided three assists before departing in January 2023. In January 2023, he signed a long-term contract with the Premier League club Newcastle United. The transfer fee was reported at £45 million, which would make it one of the most expensive transfers in the club’s history. He scored his first goal for the club in a 1–1 draw with Chelsea on the final day of the 2022–23 season. In 2023–24, he made 34 Premier League appearances, scoring six goals and providing five assists, also helping Newcastle reach the Champions League. He won the EFL Cup with Newcastle in 2024–25, the club’s first major trophy in 70 years. In 2025–26, he finished as Newcastle’s top scorer in all competitions with 17 goals, including a remarkable Champions League campaign where he scored 10 goals in 12 appearances.

On the international stage, Gordon has represented England at under-18, under-19, under-20, and under-21 levels. He won the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship with England and was named the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship Player of the Tournament. In 2024, Gordon was named to the 26-man squad for UEFA Euro 2024 and made his senior England debut for friendlies against Brazil and Belgium. He was part of England’s squad for the UEFA Nations League and 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign and was officially named to the England squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Overall, Gordon has earned 17 caps for England, netting two goals in the process.

Personal life

Gordon is in a relationship with Annie Keating. The couple became parents in 2023.

Beyond football, Gordon has spoken openly about his interest in books, visualization, and mindset training. In interviews, he explained that he often writes down personal goals and practices visualization techniques to stay mentally prepared both in football and daily life. He is also interested in chess, boxing, and self-development books, with The Art of Winning by former rugby player Dan Carter being one of his favorites.
