Christian Pulisic is an American professional soccer player who is a practicing Catholic and a Christian. Pulisic has made references to his religious beliefs on different occasions. In a January 2021 story for GQ, he discussed the challenges of living alone in a foreign country during the pandemic and how his faith has grown during his time in London. “Something that I’ve grown a lot closer with this past year is my belief in God, especially being alone over here,” Pulisic said. “I feel like I always have someone who’s with me. I don’t know how I would do any of this without that feeling that he’s watching over me and there’s a reason why I’m here.”

Christian Pulisic plays the positions of winger, attacking midfielder, and forward for AC Milan of the Serie A football league as well as for the United States national team. He previously played in England for Chelsea and also for Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund. Among his many career achievements, Pulisic won the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League with Chelsea and was named the Best Young Player of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup after carrying the United States men’s national team to the tournament final.

Pulisic is currently under a contract that reportedly runs until June 2027, following his €22 million move to AC Milan in 2023. According to various sources, his base pay at Milan stands around £84,801 per week (≈ $112,042) and about £4.4 million per year (≈ $5.8 million).

Early life

Christian Mate Pulisic was born on September 18, 1998, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, to English and German mother Kelley and Croatian father Mark Pulisic. He is the youngest of three children, with an older brother, Chase, and an older sister, Devyn. Pulisic was educated at Workman Elementary School in Michigan. When Pulisic was seven years old, he began playing for the youth team of Brackley Town. Later, Pulisic joined PA Classics, a U.S. Soccer Development Academy. He remained with the team until 2015, when he moved to Germany to join Borussia Dortmund’s youth academy.

Borussia Dortmund

Pulisic moved to Borussia Dortmund from Pennsylvania at age 16. The club assigned him first to their U17 and U19 squads before earning a promotion to the senior squad during the January 2016 winter break under manager Thomas Tuchel. He made his Bundesliga debut on January 30, 2016, in a 2–0 win against FC Ingolstadt, coming on as a substitute. Three months later, Pulisic scored his first Bundesliga goal in a 3–0 win against Hamburg, becoming the youngest non-German and fourth youngest player in Bundesliga history to score at just 17 years old. He broke numerous records with the club, including becoming the youngest American to play in a UEFA competition, the youngest American to score in the Champions League, and the youngest US player to win a major European trophy when Dortmund beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2–1 in the 2017 DFB-Pokal final. With Borussia Dortmund, he played a total of 127 games and scored 19 goals with 26 assists before joining the English club Chelsea.

Chelsea

Pulisic was loaned back to Dortmund for the remainder of the 2018–19 season before formally joining Chelsea in the summer of 2019. He made history as the most expensive American player and Borussia Dortmund’s second most expensive sale of all time, behind Ousmane Dembélé, following his £58 million move to Chelsea. In his debut Premier League season, he scored nine goals in 25 games and was arguably the team’s best player during the Project Restart period, driving Chelsea to a fourth-place finish and an FA Cup final appearance. His defining moment at the club came in the 2020–21 Champions League campaign. He scored the opener in Chelsea’s semi-final first leg at Real Madrid, becoming the first American to score in a Champions League semi-final, before playing in the final as Chelsea defeated Manchester City 1–0 in Porto. He became the first American male to play in and win a UEFA Champions League final. He also won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup with the club. Across four seasons at Stamford Bridge, he made 145 appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 21 assists.

AC Milan

After an increasing lack of playing time during the 2022–23 season with Chelsea, Pulisic decided to join AC Milan. He had a successful career debut season in Italy, playing 50 matches across all competitions and scoring 12 goals in Serie A. His contribution helped the team finish second in the league and instantly made him a fan favorite at the San Siro. His second season in 2024–25 was even better, tallying 16 goals and 11 assists in 45 appearances, earning back-to-back Serie A Team of the Season selections and winning the Supercoppa Italiana. In the 2025–26 Serie A season, he has recorded eight goals and four assists in 30 appearances.

International career

Pulisic began his career with the United States national football team at the youth level, playing for the under-15 and under-17 teams. He made his debut for the senior team in 2016, in a World Cup qualifier. He soon became the youngest player to score a goal in the modern era of US Soccer. He won the US Soccer Young Player of the Year in 2016 and the Male Player of the Year in 2017, an award he has since won four times in total, tied with Landon Donovan for the most all-time. At the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, he scored the winning goal against Iran that clinched the USMNT’s advancement to the Round of 16. He captained the USMNT to three consecutive CONCACAF Nations League titles in 2020, 2023, and 2024, scoring a brace in the semi-final against Mexico in 2023 and captaining the side to the final victory over Canada and later Mexico. He led the USMNT to the final of Copa América 2024 before they fell to Uruguay in the semi-finals. As of 2026, he has earned 85 senior caps and scored 33 goals.

Pulisic has earned remarkable career achievements with the United States Men’s National Team, leading his country to three CONCACAF Nations League titles since making his debut. According to official records, his standout individual honors include winning the U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year award four times (tied for the most in history) and earning the Best Young Player award at the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Personal life

Pulisic’s father played professional indoor soccer in the 1990s for the Harrisburg Heat before transitioning into coaching at youth, collegiate, and professional levels, while his mother, Kelly, worked as a middle school health and physical education teacher. In addition to his US heritage, Pulisic is of Croatian and Italian descent.

Aside from football, Pulisic founded the Christian Pulisic Legacy Program, also known as Stomping Grounds, a multi-faceted, long-term initiative that provides underserved children in North America with access to football through product donations, camps, clinics, safe access to playing fields, and community events. In June 2024, Paramount+ announced a new nine-part docuseries titled PULISIC, produced in partnership with CBS Sports, which premiered on December 9, 2024, offering unprecedented access to his life and career from his beginnings in Hershey, Pennsylvania, to the lead-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup on home soil.
