Arda Güler plays for the Spanish football club Real Madrid. His numerous career achievements with the club include winning both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. Güler has also played for the Turkey national football team at all levels of competition. Güler began his senior career with the Turkish club Fenerbahçe during the 2021–22 season. When he signed with Real Madrid in July 2023, Güler entered into a six-year contract.
Early life
Arda Güler was born on February 25, 2005, in Altındağ, Ankara, Turkey. His parents Ümit and Serap Güler were born and raised in Turkey. Güler began his football career at Ankara-based club Gençlerbirliği in 2014, and five years later, he was scouted by Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe. He joined the Fenerbahçe youth academy, on which he played on Fenerbahçe’s U-15, U-16, and U-19 youth teams, and in 18 matches with the U-19 team, he scored seven goals. He made 3 goals and 1 assist in the U-19 Play-Off quarterfinal match and thus attracted attention as the top scorer in that season’s Play-Off.

Career
In January 2021, Arda signed a 2.5-year professional contract with Fenerbahçe. On August 19, 2021, he made his senior debut as a substitute in the 2021-22 UEFA Europa League play-off round, and three days later, he featured in his first Süper Lig match. In March 2022, Güler became Fenerbahçe’s youngest scorer in Süper Lig history, and by May of that year, he had scored three goals and delivered 3 assists in just 255 minutes of playing time. It was soon reported that European clubs such as Liverpool, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, and Barcelona showed interest in signing Güler. On 17 March 2022, Fenerbahçe announced that they had signed a three-year contract with him.
During the 2022–23 season, Güler scored two goals in his first match. In June 2023, he achieved a man of the match performance at the Turkish Cup final, which Fenerbahçe won. On July 6, 2023, Arda announced that he was leaving Fenerbahçe, and Real Madrid announced that they had signed him to a six-year contract lasting until June 2029. Güler suffered several injuries in late 2023, and then he made his Real Madrid debut in January 2024 during a Copa del Rey match against Arandina, contributing to the team’s 3–1 win. Later that month, he won his first trophy with Real Madrid in the Supercopa de España final. Arda’s La Liga debut took place on January 27th, and on May 19th, he became the fastest player in the history of Real Madrid to score six La Liga goals.
Güler has represented the Turkish national football team on many occasions, starting as a youth on the Turkey U21s team and working up from there. Güler was called up to the senior France squad for the first time in the summer of 2022. Two years later, he was named in Turkey’s 26-man squad for UEFA Euro 2024. Finally, Güler was awarded Player of the Match and became the first teenager to score on his European Championship debut since 2004 as well as the fifth-youngest goalscorer in UEFA Euro history.
