Désiré Doué is a French professional footballer who is a Christian. After PSG’s Champions League victory against Arsenal, he publicly thanked Jesus Christ in a post-match interview, saying, “I want to thank the Lord Jesus Christ. Regarded as one of the best wingers in the world, Désiré Doué plays for the Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain and the France national football team. Previously, he played for the club Rennes, helping the French side progress through two competitive seasons in Ligue 1. Among his other achievements, Doué won a continental treble and back-to-back UEFA Champions League titles in 2025 and 2026. Early life

Désiré Nonka-Maho Doué was born on June 3, 2005, in Angers, France. He was born to a French mother and an Ivorian father, and he has an older brother named Guéla who plays as a defender for Strasbourg and represents the Ivory Coast. He has two cousins who both also played professional football. Désiré’s uncle and godfather, Noumandiez Doué, is a famous former FIFA international referee. When Désiré was six years old, he joined the youth academy at Stade Rennais, where he developed his skills and trained alongside his brother Guéla. In 2024, Désiré was part of the French team at the 2024 Olympic Games, which they lost 5–3 in the final against Spain.

Rennes

Désiré began his youth career with the club Stade Rennais in 2011. He remained with the club until 2021 before signing his first professional contract in April 2022. In August of 2022, Désiré made his Ligue 1 debut against Lorient, coming on as a substitute. A few days later, he scored his first professional goal in a 3–1 win over Brest, becoming the first player born in 2005 to score in any of the major five European leagues. In just his second UEFA Europa League appearance, on October 6, 2022, he scored a decisive late winner against Dynamo Kyiv to seal a 2–1 victory for Rennes. After a first senior season full of promise, during which he made 34 appearances, scored 4 goals, and provided 1 assist across all competitions, he confirmed his progress in 2023–24 with 42 appearances, 4 goals, and 6 assists for the Breton side. Across his two seasons in Ligue 1 with Rennes, he made 57 league appearances, scoring 7 goals and contributing 5 assists before PSG made their move.

Paris Saint-Germain

In the summer of 2024, Désiré joined the Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain on a five-year contract. He went on to make his PSG debut on August 24, 2024, coming on as a substitute in the 61st minute to help the club secure a 6–0 victory over Montpellier on Ligue 1 Matchday 2. In January 2025, he helped PSG win the Trophée des Champions, and in April 2025, he scored the only goal in a 1–0 victory over Angers, securing his club’s 13th Ligue 1 title. However, it was his Champions League campaign that defined his debut season. After starting just one of PSG’s first five Champions League matches, Doué came off the bench against RB Salzburg to score his maiden European goal in a 3–0 win that set the tone for the rest of the campaign. His stellar campaign was capped off by a man-of-the-match performance in the Champions League final after scoring two goals and providing one assist to Achraf Hakimi in PSG’s historic 5–0 drubbing of Inter Milan as his club won their first-ever UEFA Champions League title, completing a continental treble of the Champions League, Ligue 1, and Coupe de France. He was personally awarded the UEFA Champions League Final MVP. In July, he was named Best Young Player of the Tournament at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, where PSG finished runners-up against Chelsea. Across the 2024–25 season, he scored 16 goals and provided 16 assists in 61 appearances in all competitions. He also won the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur in August 2025. In the current 2025–26 season, he has made 23 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring 7 goals and providing 4 assists, in addition to 8 Champions League appearances with 4 goals and 2 assists.

International career

Doué has also played for France’s national team, representing at the under-17s, under-19s, and under-21s levels before being selected as part of France’s overage squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he scored one goal and provided one assist across five appearances. His Golden Boy achievement strengthened his case for regular senior inclusion, and Didier Deschamps incorporated him into the senior squad for the UEFA Nations League, where he made three appearances. He has also featured in France’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, appearing against Ukraine in September 2025 before withdrawing from subsequent call-ups due to injury. In 2026, he has featured in friendly warm-up games for the FIFA World Cup for France, scoring two goals in two appearances, including the match against Northern Ireland.

Personal life

Désiré Doué is of Ivorian descent through his parents. His older brother, Guéla Doué, is also a professional footballer who has represented Côte d’Ivoire at the international level. Doué is eligible to represent both France and Côte d’Ivoire through his heritage.

Outside football, Doué has shown an interest in fashion, music, and contemporary culture, although he generally keeps these interests secondary to his sporting career.
