Early life

Elliot Junior Anderson was born on November 6, 2002, in Whitley Bay, England. He is of Scottish descent through his grandfather and has an elder brother, Wil Anderson. When Anderson was eight years old, he began playing on the youth team of the English team Newcastle United. He was educated at Valley Gardens Middle School and Whitley Bay High School.

Newcastle United

Anderson joined Newcastle United in 2010, playing for the club’s youth team. He did so until 2021. Meanwhile, from 2007 to 2010, he played for an English youth football club, Wallsend Boys Club. After that, Anderson signed a professional contract with Newcastle and made his senior debut in an FA Cup defeat to Arsenal as an 18-year-old in January 2021. Nine days later, he received his Premier League bow in a loss to the same opponents. He was a late substitute in the 2023 EFL Cup final defeat to Manchester United and was controversially denied what would have been his first Newcastle goal at Nottingham Forest after his header was ruled out by VAR for the narrowest of offsides. Bristol Rovers

For the 2022 season, Anderson was transferred to the League Two club Bristol Rovers. He scored eight goals and provided five assists in 21 appearances. On the final day of the season, he scored Rovers’ final goal in a 7–0 thrashing of Scunthorpe United. His goal moved Rovers above Northampton Town on goals scored into the final automatic promotion spot, sending the club back to League One at the first time of asking.

After returning to Newcastle, Anderson became a more regular member of the first-team squad during the 2022–23 and 2023–24 seasons. He contributed to Newcastle’s push for European football. Anderson was born in Whitley Bay to a Scottish grandmother. He was courted by both England and Scotland at the youth level. Anderson has represented Scotland at the youth level, playing for the U16, U17, U18, and U21 teams. He switched his allegiance to England in March 2021, and in August 2024, he was part of the England U21 squad for UEFA Euro U21 qualifying fixtures against Northern Ireland and Austria. He was named in the Team of the Tournament at the 2025 UEFA Under-21 European Championship in Slovakia as England successfully defended its title. Following that performance, he was called into the senior squad by Thomas Tuchel for England’s first internationals of the 2025–26 season in August 2025, making his debut in a World Cup qualifier against Andorra.
